HOME SPUN TRAVELERS…NOT A BUNCH OF KNITTERS!

So what’s in a name? Nearly forty years of experience in the travel industry, early on with the largest tour companies in Madison and even Wisconsin and then with Holiday Travel (now Holiday Vacations) and Wisconsin Northern Tours (now Turco’s Northern) in Eau Claire.

Like many of us, I thought I could do it better and started the process from my home (key word) in Chetek. As I planned and figured and began to compile a calendar of departures, I realized I’d needed a name. Something different--not “Bill’s Tours” or “Seniors on the Go,” something to do with “home.” I’m planning…I’m writing…I’m telling a story…I’m spinning a tale….I’m looking at my great grandmother’s spinning wheel at home…THAT’S IT, “Home Spun.”

The name means a lot to me. It is about home, long ago a cabin that my grandparents bought (mother’s side) and a spinning wheel from my dad’s side. It’s also a place I don’t spend much time as I travel about 270 days a year with my tours.

We’ve been in Rice Lake for nearly twenty years and like the song says, “I’ve been everywhere, man.” If you asked me my favorite tour, I’d honestly tell you, “the next one.” I hope that’s the one you’ll be on.
